Second-half specialists Manchester City restored their six-point lead at the head of the Division One after a stirring comeback win over Alan Ball's Portsmouth.
In the first-half the Blues looked a shadow of the side who racked up four straight wins to top the table but they stormed back after the break to wreck Ball's dream of returning to Maine Road with a victory.
For Ball, who was given a police escort into the ground and saw his side twice in front, it was another night to forget in Manchester.
Portsmouth had led 1-0 at half time through former City striker Lee Bradbury's opener but just as at Port Vale on Saturday the interval tea and some words from boss Joe Royal saw a totally different City emerge.
The catalyst for the conversion was left-winger Mark Kennedy who had a hand in three of the Blues' second-half strikes.
Within a minute of the restart Portsmouth keeper Andy Petterson was unable to hold Kennedy's shot and Jeff Whitley stole in to equalise.
Portsmouth pluckily reclaimed the lead through Thomas Thogersen in the 57th minute when he capitalised on a loose ball from Richard Jobson to slot past Weaver.
But then Kennedy and Gareth Taylor stole the show to put the Blues in front, two Kennedy crosses being converted by Taylor's head.
The first came after 66 minutes when the Republic of Ireland winger evaded three defenders and picked out Taylor who made no mistake from close range.
And City went ahead for the first time three minutes later when Taylor rose high to power home a Kennedy free-kick.
The final word went to substitute Jamie Pollock when he hurdled a defender before rifling his shot past Petterson in injury time.
