Report by Ben Davis

A fluke goal by Sammy Igoe almost gave Pompey their first win in nine matches but a fine goal by Paul Dalton meant they had to settle for another point. If you thought Pompey were bad then you should see Huddersfield's recent form. They haven't won since April last season and have scored the fewest goals and have conceded the most.
Pompey's selection plans were dealt a blow when McLoughlin was called up by Eire for their five-day training session before their crucial World Cup Play-Off against Belgium on Wednesday. Andy Awford replaced him with Durnin making an appearance on the bench.
The start was fast and furious with play scooting from one end to the other. Knight had to get into the action after three minutes as he did well to punch Dalton's fine cross to safety. Quickly up at the other end Igoe and Aloisi combined to set up Foster to have a shot from outside the area which went wide. Then as Huddersfield pushed forward Awford's clearing header sent Hall racing through on goal but Ryan made a great challenge to save his team, had he not made contact with the ball a penalty was certain along with a red card.
Suddenly Knight produced his very best to keep Pompey in it as he made a series of fine saves. Huddersfield's new signing Richardson turned smartly on the edge of the box and as he moved into the area he had a great chance to score only for Knight to save with his legs. Minutes later he saved Gray's header from Ryan's free-kick.
The home side had the bit between their teeth and continued to be denied by Knight. He blocked Dalton's effort with Perrett hacking it to safety and 20 seconds later a Ryan pass found Stewart free in the area but he could only shoot weakly straight at the keeper. The home fans sensed a goal was close, they were right but Pompey got it.
Pethick charged forward and after cutting in played the ball back out to the right where Igoe picked it up. The midfielder beat his man and the cross from the right looped over Bartram in Huddersfield's goal and in off the far post. It was such a fluke goal that the players and fans took a few seconds to realise Pompey had gone in front.
The first booking came when Richardson crunched through Awford with the Pompey defender requiring treatment, the tackle itself came seemingly out of frustration by the Huddersfield player as his team had got nothing from all their pressure. Pompey wasted a corner before Richardson had another opportunity but he took his time allowing the defenders to clear.
The pressure from the home side continued after the break with a move down the right involving Baldry and Richardson ended in Ryan firing wide. It clearly wasn't Huddersfield's afternoon as from Horne's pass Stewart dragged another chance wide of Knight's goal. The tension was starting to mount in the home fans with the referee making a bizarre decision by awarding Foster a free-kick after he had pulled back Jenkins who was booked for arguing his case.
On 63 minutes Pethick set off on a run down the right and got in a cross only to see Hall volley it high over Bartram's goal. Yet three minutes later Bartram produced a brilliant save to keep his side in it. Igoe's ball over the home defence sent Hall away and his right foot shot was somehow tipped away by the keeper as it looked destined for the far corner of the net.
So far Pompey's defence had soaked up a lot of pressure and it seemed the reward of a clean sheet was on the cards, but how much more pressure could they take? The impressive Dalton wriggled into the area and his goal bound shot was blocked by Awford.
Pompey desperately needed the all important second goal and when Simpson's pass found Hall in the area it seemed it was there. However, instead of controlling the ball he elected to shoot first time volleying wide.
Some more pressure by the home side though finally ended in glory after 80 minutes and meant Pompey are still looking for their first clean sheet of the season. Lawson passed to Dalton who from 25-yards curled it beyond the helpless Knight and into the top corner of the net. Pompey then had to survive even more pressure as from Richardson's cross Lawson headed just over.
Pompey's defence managed to hang on with Knight making one final save by clawing away another Lawson header. A draw though it stayed and leaves Pompey desperate to get a win under their belts. Confidence may though have been raised by this gutsy performance and they will have to be a lot more attacking minded when they play Swindon live in front of the sky TV cameras next Friday.
