Report by Ben Davis

Pompey got their Coca Cola Cup campaign off to a good start and shouldn't have any problems in the return leg at Brisbane Road. Alan Knight still wasn't fit so the unlucky Aaron Flahavan continued in goal and on the bench youngster Dave Waterman replaced Andy Thomson.
Pompey were the better team early on and their slick passing on a superb pitch was too much for their third division guests. After nine minutes Pompey took the lead when Simpson chased a ball down the left to win a corner. Carter swung it in and Burton, totally unmarked, nodded the ball past Sealey.
After that Pompey threatened to rip apart Orient with Hall and Burton's pace. Firstly Burton fed Hall though one-on-one with Sealey but the former Man Utd keeper drove him wide and the chance went. Mcloughlin wasn't to pleased since he was free with an open goal at his mercy.
In the 23rd minute McLoughlin's free-kick was met by Butters and his header crashed down off the underside of the bar.
To Orient's credit they fought back although they didn't really create a decent chance. From a Pompey corner they broke away with a three-on-one situation but Pethick time his tackle perfectly to stop the danger. Pethick an early surprise for player of the season after his brave efforts in goal on Saturday.
Orient again broke from a Pompey corner and it end with the large figure of Garland firing just wide from 20-yards. Flahavan then had to be sharp to stop Hendon's free-kick.
There was no change in the second half as Pompey continued to pass accurately and their pace was always going to be a problem for Orient.
In the 57th minute Pompey claimed their second goal and Orient manager Pat Holland will not want to see it again. Simpson flicked it down the left for Carter to chase, but he forced Hendon to play a risky back-pass and it proved to be fatal as Sealey missed it and Burton slide in at the far post for the present.
One player who was impressive was young Sammy Igoe and he went close with a long-range effort. His vision and passing must surely be concern for captain Martin Allen as it is his place Igoe is in.
In defence Pompey were solid but they'll get a much harder test against QPR on Friday with the likes of Gallen and Dichio up front.
In the final minute Flahavan needed to make his most demanding save of the game when West's shot bounced off the keeper but Flahavan just grabbed the ball before Orient substitute could reach it.
