Report by Ben Davis

Steve Bull showed Terry Fenwick what his team lacks as Wolves claimed the points and their fourth away victory. How they got them is beyond beleif as Pompey produced one of their best performances so far but putting the ball in the net let them down badly.
Igoe came in for Pethick and John Durnin also made the first team after his stunning goal on Saturday in place of Hall, who hasn't performed well recently.
Pompey started well as a corner was won down the left. Carter whipped it in and Russell's header was tipped over by Stowell for another corner. Stowell then had a scare when he clashed with Durnin and after lengthy treatment the Portsmouth born keeper got up gingerly.
Pompey were generally the better side in the opening stages with Igoe and Simpson working very hard in midfield. For all their battling Pompey found themselves a goal down after 12 minutes. Awford put the ball out for a corner which Froggett crossed with pace. Flahavan flapped at it and Bull pounced at the far post to score with ease.
That didn't get Pompey down and might have been level a minute later as Turner got behind Wolves' defence on the left. He got in a left foot shot which Stowell blocked to stop it going in past the near post.
The wingers, Carter and Turner, were a constant menace but the final ball just was accurate enough to find a blue shirt in a goal scoring chance. With Pompey pushing up it left gaps at the back and a quick break by Wolves almost ended with a goal. Bull chipped a ball across the edge of the area to Crow who took it down and fired in a shot which Flahavan saved well.
Bradbury hadn't really had a decent chance so far but a neat turn got him into the area on the right and his left foot shot was once again blocked by Stowell.
A minute before the interval Crow once again pealed off his marker to get into a goal scoring opportunity but this time he fired over.
Pompey continued where they left off with their midfield in control but it was the same old story. Wolves' centre backs of Venus and Richards got in their tackles and made it hard for Pompey to find a way through.
A neat move down the right sent the enthusiastic Igoe sprinting away down the right and his low cross was just missed by Turner in the centre.
In the 56th minute Pompey created their best chance and it should have been buried. Russell, who so far had had a steady game, surged forward, swapped passes with Durnin and found Turner on the left. The former Spurs man ran on into the area and played it into the middle where Russell met it but somehow contrived to blast it over.
A minute later Pompey were at Wolves again and this time Turner got in a shot which Stowell saved well at his near post. Those two chances were to prove costly as Wolves sealed the match with a second goal.
Venus launched a ball out of defence over to the left where Perrett and Bull challenged for the ball. The youngster fouled up the back pass and allowed Bull to slide the ball past Flahavan and score into an open goal.
That finished off Pompey as the game petered out and with five minutes to go Bull had the chance of a hat-trick. Russell's back pass was slack and Bull latched onto it but drove the shot straight at Flahavan.
Fenwick's verdict was that his players didn't go in where it hurts in order to score goals and that he is trying his very best to get that vital striker to pust away the chances Pompey create.
